2010 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program

  POSTED  06/10/2010

The Waltham Police Department has been granted funding from the federal government under the 2010 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program.  The Waltham Police Dept. has been granted $13,544 with four years to draw on these funds.   The Waltham Police Department will use these funds to enforce pedestrian light, crosswalk violations, and flashing school bus light violations.  What has prompted this campaign is that in the past 41 months there have been 112 pedestrian related accidents in the City of Waltham.  The Waltham Police Department’s goal is to increase pedestrian safety and to educate the motoring public on pedestrian regulations through targeted motor vehicle violation enforcement.

The Waltham Police Department invites any comments regarding the use of these funds or this grant program.  The Waltham Police Dept. encourages the public to alert us of locations they experience or observe motor vehicle violations that compromise pedestrian safety.  We will use this information to direct our enforcement efforts.
